Heavy Maintenance Repair and Overhaul System (HMRO):
HMRO (Heavy Maintenance Repair and Overhaul) processes comprise highly sophisticated and complex sets of activities which are executed by specialized professionals. Since the Maintenance activities involve commercial aircraft/ helicopters, statutory rules and regulations enforcing safety and quality standards are very stringent. The HMRO IT System (hereafter expressed as HMRO) adhere to and satisfies these stringent statutory requirements. The HMRO will be subjected to audit by the Regulatory Authorities (as applicable) to ensure compliance with the prevalent policies, rules & regulations on the subject.

The HMRO design also ensures that it addresses the additional safety & quality requirements as spelt out by its User, over and above the standards defined by the Aviation Regulatory Authorities.

The HMRO addresses the following MRO activities:
  • Aircraft/ Airframe MRO - Hangar Facilities
  • MRO Workshops for various Components and Ancillaries
  • Power plant MRO workshop


The HMRO shall have following Sub-Systems/ Modules:
  • HMRO Commercial Sub-System (Commercial Functions)
  • HMRO Resource Planning & Scheduling Sub-System (Planning Functions)
  • HMRO Production Sub-System (Production Functions)
  • HMRO Centralized MIS Reports, EIS Dashboard Metrics
  • HMRO Logistics & Inventory Management Sub-System (Independent Sub-System)
  • HMRO Safety and Quality Management Sub-System (Independent Sub-System)
  • Integrated Document Management System (Tech Pubs Library) (Independent Sub-System)

System Functions and Features (HMRO)


The modules under this function will facilitate the Commercial Department of the MRO to record the RFIs/ RFPs received, generation of the estimates and quotes, recording the negotiations carried out with the clients and finalization of the quotations and forward them to the Production Function. This function also facilitates the Client Relationship Management by recording the feedbacks, complaints, suggestions, etc., received from the client.

The following Modules will be available under this MRO Commercial Sub-System:

This Sub-System provides features to manage (Plan, Schedule and Control) the various resources required to execute the MRO functions efficiently. The following resources are managed by the Sub-System:
  • Hangars, Servicing Bays and other facilities
  • Workshops (for Components & Ancillaries)
  • Support Equipment, Docking Systems, Rigs, Cranes, etc.
  • Stores & Materials (Parts, Consumables, Tools, etc.)
  • Human Resources (Engineers, Technicians, Assistants)
In addition to the above assets, the sub-system also manages the creation, control, distribution and monitoring of "Work Packages" that are required to carry out MRO activities as per the approved scope. HMRO comprise the following modules under the planning function:

Work Package Management Module (WPM): This module enables the MRO facility to create properly organized Work Packages (comprising Task/ Job Cards), in response to the Work Orders issued by the Aircraft Operator/ Owner. The WPM enables the Users to select specific tasks from the latest revisions of AMM/ CMM/ JICs/ Task Cards issued by the Manufacturers, sequence them in the order of execution and also define parallel/ sequential relationship between tasks, i.e., define task predecessors.

Hangar and Bay Management Module (HBM): Hangar Management Module is used for planning as well as scheduling/ rescheduling of hangar locations and Maintenance Bays. This Module captures details related to Hangar(s), Bay(s) and other Maintenance venues, in terms of dimensions, capacity and their layouts including Docking Systems and other access systems available as part of MRO infrastructure. Provision for capacity planning & scheduling of the hangars floor/ bays in terms of planned maintenance of infrastructure, resource availability against reservation/ bookings.

Work Shop(s) Management Module (WSM): Workshop Management Module provides optimized schedule matching to ensure that assemblies/ components under maintenance/ repair/ overhaul are ready in time to meet master production schedule of the aircraft MRO project, taking into consideration the shop's capability and capacity constraints.

Support Equipment Management Module (SEM): This module defines frequency of planned maintenance schedule for the MRO Support Equipment, facilitates tracking of the planned maintenance activities and issuing call outs well before the due date. The module has capability to track maintenance activity status like - last maintenance done, maintenance being carried out, next maintenance due on various support equipment used in a MRO facility.

Maintenance Crew Management Module (MCM): Maintenance Crew comprises Aircraft Maintenance Engineers (AMEs), Technicians and other Helping Hands on strength of a typical MRO facility as well as Engineers and Technicians on contract or brought in as Freelance Specialist Consultants. This module monitors the qualifications, certifications and authorizations of all crew working at the MRO facility.

Material Planning Module (MPM): The MPM is an extension of the Logistics & Inventory Management System. The key functions would cover raising advance stores requisitions based on the projects in the pipeline and calculation of the requirement of parts, material, tools, etc. based on the Work Orders received.


Receiving Inspection Module: Information/ data of Aircraft/ engine/ components due for inspection at the Repairs Station are entered into this module. The data in respect of associated maintenance requirements is also saved and reports generated.

MRO Execution/ Production Module: The module facilitates assignment of Task Cards/ Job Cards to specific Technicians and/or assigning teams/ gangs to specific Task/ Job Cards. Depending on the Task/ Job Card sequence and predecessors/ successors/ dependencies defined by the Production Planner, this module will display constraints for assignment of the jobs. In addition, the module provides the following functionalities:
  • Work Package/ Task Card Completion:
  • Generation of Tear Down report
  • Non-Routine Cards (NRCs) Analysis
  • Re-work
  • Schedule Overruns
  • Conflicting Task/ Job Card Register
MRO Post-Production Module: Once all the Task/ Job Cards and the corresponding Work Packages are closed, the delivery documentation process starts. The following aircraft records are updated:
  • Aircraft, Engine, Component Log Books
  • Updated MRO Task Tally Sheet and Work Order
  • Updated Fit List (serialized inventory) with current TSO/ CSO & TSN/ CSN.
  • Details of SBs/ ADs compliance and the latest Mod Status
  • Weight & Balance Certificate
  • Airworthiness Release Certificate (CA Form 1/ Form 8130)
Redelivery Documentation: This module provides for exhaustive review of MRO documentation contained in aircraft/ engine/ component log books and generating the reports containing findings/ observations thereof. The module provides the following features:
  • Provision to enter/ view/ edit data/ information associated with aircraft check flights and aircraft storage and maintenance requirements.
  • Provision to view Aircraft/ Engine/ component history TSN, CSN, TBO, etc.
  • Provision to view remaining life, renewed life, next maintenance/ overhaul due.
  • Provision to alert the customer when the item is due its next maintenance/ overhaul.
  • Should have current status of compliance with mandatory airworthiness requirements.
  • Provision to update details in respect of history of major repair and alterations.
  • Provision to update details in respect of history of scheduled maintenance
  • Provision to update details in respect of history of unscheduled maintenance.
  • Shall contain Records of Airworthiness Release (CA Form 1/8130).
  • Any other redelivery documents that may be required by the client.


The Compliance Function of the MRO facilitates tracking of all regulatory and management compliance requirements. It is integrated with the Safety & Quality Management System (SQMS).

Quality Management Module: This module provides for exhaustive review of MRO documentation contained in aircraft/ engine/ component log books and generating the reports containing findings/ observations thereof. The module provides the following features:

Reports Module: Pre-defined reports as well as customized reports to meet User requirements

The system will have capability to generate the following feedback in form of graph/ matrix/ text display/ alerts/ warnings.
  • View % completion of Projects, Work packages
  • Track Work In Progress in each shop/ hangar
  • View status of reserved resources at any point of time
  • View hold up/ delay in Work Card/ Job Card completion
  • Display estimated versus actual cost of repair
  • Display estimated versus actual time taken for repair
  • View open and closed Projects.
  • View working hours of each individual Crew including Overtime.
  • View planned versus actual material/ resources used
  • Display priority Projects separately.
  • Display alerts when any Project is behind timeline (as per pre-defined business rule)
  • View number of NRCs generated per Project/ Repair Order


The IDMS is used to manage the following conventional content of information/ knowledge in digital format, so as to provide a paperless environment:
  • Technical Publication supplied by the Aircraft manufacturers/ OEMs/ Vendors.
  • Statutory Regulation and Rules
  • Company Policy Manuals, SOPs, Internal Memos
  • Aircraft Documents and Maintenance Records
  • Crew Documents and Records
  • All Logistics, Legal & Financial documents, Contracts, Warranty documents, etc.
